There are no publicly funded high schools in Kenya. All students who wish to attend secondary school must take a national eighth grade exam. Only 50% of children pass that exam. Of the 50% who do pass, they must then gain acceptance to a private, boarding high school. Once in, they must find a way to pay. For most children in Kibera even basics like food are hard to afford, so paying for high school is not an option. With no hope of further education, many children drop out in sixth or seventh grade. The Children of Kibera Foundation wants to provide hope and options for the bright, perseverant dedicated children who pass the eighth grade exam. Through donations, we can make high school a reality for these children. We can give them hope beyond eighth grade. We can give them a path out of the slums of Kibera.
Here is an example how your simple gifts can make extraordinary differences:
- $250 = tuition, room and board for a high school student for 3 months
- $500 = tuition, room and board for a high school student for 6 months
- $1,000 = tuition, room and board for a high school student for a full school year.
- $4,000 = will sponsor a child through their entire high school experience!
