“St. John Supports Kenya!” and “Shoes for Kids in Kenya!” were a couple of the phrases on posters that adorned the walls of St. John Academy for two weeks in February. Students created the posters to promote a shoe drive they were holding for the Red Rose School in the Kibera, a slum in Nairobi, Kenya. While the students understood they were helping those in need, many did not grasp what kind of place Kibera is, but Ken Okoth, a Kenyan native and founder of the Children of Kibera Foundation, aimed to change this.
